Pour another draft!

Just finished (3:30 a.m.) the first draft of Auggie’s Wedding, a short story for my good friend Kimmy’s wedding this next Sunday (in which I’ll be serving as Kimmy’s best man). I’d been writing on this for the past couple of days, then today I went for a walk to think about a brick wall I’d hit with the framing and voice of the piece and scrapped everything I’d written so far, keeping only a single paragraph from my original version.

8.5 hours later, I’d completely rewritten the piece and am now happy enough with draft one to go to bed. Weighs in at 20 pages and 5,500 some-odd words. Will be spending the next couple of days reworking the piece further I’m sure, before trying to nail down an “official draft” for the wedding gift, which I’ll be binding and giving copies to the bride and groom as well as to members of the wedding party (assuming the story meets with Kimmy and Bob’s approval).
